In agreement with DG SANTE the European Animal Welfare Reference Centres will visit veterinary inspectors in the different Member States in their own countries to be able to better support their work as inspectors in the field of husbandry, transport and slaughter. A new Good Practice Factsheet is online about on-farm hatching to improve broiler welfare from the start.
In a commercial hatchery, broiler chicks hatch within a period of 24-48 hours in a hatcher. During this time, usually no water or feed is available.
